The first five paintings shown are examples of my use of the soak – stain painting technique used by some artists painting in the 1940’s: like Helen Frankenthaler, Morris Lewis, and Sam Gilliam.
Over the last few years, I have researched and developed my version of this technique for painting more realistic work than was done by the earlier abstract artists. It uses acrylic inks and fluid paints on raw or un-gessoed canvas to create soft fluid textures. I let the paint/ink move in the canvas and create special textures in trees and rocks and let it dry and then add more paint layers.
Creating art requires the courage: to try new things, to seek new inspirations, and to share your art with your community. My art is always there waiting for me to bring me joy and frustration like an old friend. When world events drain my joy in life, art rejuvenates, inspires, and restores me.
